Roster of Certified Spanish Interpreters

The following Spanish interpreters in the New York area have been certified by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. The certification process comprises a rigorous written and oral examination that measures a candidate's ability to interpret accurately in simultaneous, consecutive interpretation and sight translation in federal court matters.

Attorneys seeking interpreters for jail or office visits with clients or family members, or for the translation of correspondence, court documents, tape transcripts or other material, will need to call a contract interpreter directly and agree on rates and schedule for the particular assignment. CJA counsel will need to sign a CJA voucher filled out by the interpreter upon completion of the assignment. (Please note that for CJA purposes, interpreting is considered an expert service and if the cost exceeds $800, prior approval from the judicial officer is required.) Cancellation fees apply if an assignment is canceled with less than 24 hours' notice to the interpreter. For jail visits, attorneys should inquire as to the interpreter's current admission status for the facility in question.

This database includes federal and state staff court interpreters who are generally not available for freelance assignments, and are omitted by default.
